Property Maintenance

In order to promote the general health, safety, and welfare of the residents of Myerstown Borough, all existing residential and nonresidential structures and all existing parcels of land are subject to regulations that specify minimum standards for structures, equipment and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from the elements, a reasonable level of safety from fire and other hazards, and for a reasonable level of sanitary maintenance.  The Borough has adopted the following property maintenance codes:

International Property Maintenance Code 
The Borough has adopted the 2018 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) as its property maintenance code.  The IPMC establishes minimum maintenance standards for basic equipment, light, ventilation, heating, sanitation and fire safety. Information on the IPMC can be found at the International Code Council’s (ICC) website

Responsibility is fixed among owners, operators, and occupants for code compliance. 

Borough Health and Safety Ordinances
The Borough has adopted health and safety ordinances to regulate grass and weeds, junked or abandoned vehicles and appliances, nuisances, accumulation of waste, and animals that may spread disease or infection.  These ordinances can be found in Chapter 10 of the Myerstown Borough Code of Ordinances.

Responsibility is fixed among owners, operators, and occupants for code compliance.
