While most of 2018 was wet and cloudy, a more perfect weekend could not have been planned for this end-of-summer carnival held at the Myerstown Recreation Area. Sunny skies and temperatures in the high 70s greeted thousands of attendees who enjoyed a ferris wheel, a giant slide, thrill rides, swings, and plenty of kids rides and games. Vendors filled the park with artisan crafts, food and drinks, and other sale items, as well as wine tasting and a beer garden. The local Boy Scout troop and the Myerstown Panthers football program set up food stands to feed the crowd and raise money for their organizations. Volunteers constructed an amazing 53’-long stage out of two tractor trailers, and professional sound and lighting highlighted the weekend events. On Friday night, local band “Drysdale” performed as hundreds of onlookers enjoyed the music. Saturday’s stage events consisted of a performance by the Keystone Band of Rehrersburg, the Sestercentennial Ceremony of Celebration featuring state and local dignitaries, the world premier of “Myerstown Flight 250”, a video highlighting a stunt flight by 98-year-old WWII pilot and Myerstown resident Bob Brocklehurst, an interview of Bob by Isaac Meier (played by Diamond Sponsor Steve Goodhue), and an evening performance by local band “Firestorm”. The night was capped off by a jaw-dropping 20-minute fireworks display sponsored by A&H Industries.
