250th Anniversary

Myerstown 250th Anniversary Celebration
2018 marks the 250th year since Isaac Meier laid out the streets for the town, and the powers that be are pulling out all the stops to make it a memorable year for residents and all concerned.

A successful kick-off luncheon and a 5K Race have set the stage for some special happenings and great celebrations to pull the community together.  The ways the Sestercentennial (250th) will be celebrated include:

YouTube Commemorative Video
Myerstown resident Bob Brocklehurst, a former WWII combat pilot, will climb into the cockpit of a high-winged Decathlon Stunt Plane, and fly stunts on June 26th to honor the Sestercentennial Celebration.  Bob is 98 years old!  The footage will be incorporated into a video that will be unveiled as part of the "Weekend at the Park" event on August 25th.

Community Day at the Pool - July 14th
An all family event featuring a pig roast and a great food and beverage assortment.  Myerstown Mayor Gloria R. Ebling will honor the occasion by pardoning a pig named Sester!  We will enjoy entertainment by a DJ, and have games for kids and adult of all ages.

Myerstown Sestercentennial Night at the Reading Fightin' Phils - August 10th
Much more than a night at First Energy Field on Friday, August 10th.  Reading Mayor Wally Scott will recognize the Borough of Myerstown's 250th with an on-field proclamation, Myerstown resident and WWII veteran Bob Brocklehurst (age 98) will throw out the first ball, and Myerstown resident Jack Cantwell will sing the National Anthem.  Many residents in the stands will wear special Myerstown 250th Anniversary t-shirts.

Weekend at the Park - August 24th through 26th
A major family celebration with food, bands, and the world premier of the YouTube video featuring 98-year old pilot and WWII veteran Bob Brocklehurst.  The weekend celebration also includes a performance by the Keystone Band of Rehrersburg, carnival rides and games, craft vendors and artisans, a walking tour, wine tasting, and a special fireworks display on Saturday night!

Block Party - September 29th
We can promise a great time for everyone who joins us.  More details to follow, but the event already includes a car cruise, food trucks, a beer garden, and live entertainment!

Isaac Meier Homestead Country Fair - September 29th
This event compliments the block party being held on the same day.  The fair offers tours of the Isaac Meier Homestead, home of the founder of the town.  Enjoy demonstrations including sheep to shawl, plus sales of traditional crafts, homemade foods, ice cream, and baked goods!

Myerstown Holiday Parade - November 24th
An annual tradition in Myerstown hosted by the Myerstown Activity Network with bands and floats and more!  Look for a special Sestercentennial float!
